ABSTRACT

Objective: This systematic review aims to compare the clinical longevity of metallic and fiberglass intraradicular posts in teeth with severely compromised crowns, utilizing randomized clinical trials and case reports published in the last eleven years. Material and Methods: The research was conducted on PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, and BBO databases using the first search strategy with the descriptors 'dental posts,' 'longevity,' 'fiberglass-reinforced posts' or 'metallic posts.' The second search strategy involved analyzing the references of articles identified by the first search. Both studies were carried out with stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: No statistically significant and clinically relevant differences in longevity were observed between metallic and fiberglass posts. Conclusion: The clinical success and durability of the restorative procedure using intraradicular posts primarily depend on the remaining amount around the post (ferrule), the type and position of the tooth in the arch (impacting the masticatory forces exerted on the restored tooth), and the correct application of the cementation technique. It is noteworthy that fiberglass posts offer substantial advantages by presenting a modulus of elasticity similar to dental structure, ensuring a more homogeneous distribution of masticatory forces and reducing the risk of fractures. These findings have practical implications for material selection in restorative procedures involving intraradicular posts.(AU)


Objetivo: Esta revisão sistemática visa comparar a longevidade clínica de pinos intrarradiculares metálicos e de fibra de vidro em dentes com coroas severamente comprometidas, através de estudos clínicos randomizados e relatos de casos, publicados nos últimos onze anos. Material e Métodos: A pesquisa foi conduzida nas bases de dados PubMed, Medline, Lilacs e BBO, utilizando a primeira estratégia de busca com os s 'pinos dentais' e 'longevidade' e 'pinos reforçados com fibra de vidro' ou 'pinos metálicos'. A segunda estratégia de busca consistiu na análise das referências dos artigos identificados pela primeira estratégia. Ambos os estudos foram delineados com critérios rigorosos de inclusão e exclusão. Resultados: Não se constataram diferenças estatisticamente significativas e clinicamente relevantes na longevidade entre pinos metálicos e de fibra de vidro. Conclusão: O êxito clínico e a durabilidade do procedimento restaurador empregando pinos intrarradiculares dependem primordialmente da quantidade de remanescente ao redor do pino (férula), do tipo e posição do dente na arcada (o que impacta nas forças mastigatórias exercidas sobre o dente restaurado) e da aplicação correta da técnica de cimentação.Destaca-se que o pino de fibra de vidro oferece vantagens substanciais ao apresentar módulo de elasticidade similar à estrutura dentária, assegurando uma distribuição mais homogênea das forças mastigatórias e reduzindo o risco de fraturas (AU)

Introdução:A estética do sorriso é um aspecto valorizado pela sociedade atual, o que demanda que os profissionais de odontologia estejam atualizados sobre materiais dentários e novas técnicas para alcançar resultados estéticos restauradores de alta qualidade. A resina composta é frequentemente utilizada para simplificar a reabilitação oral, pois oferece facetas dentárias que combinam excelente estética e durabilidade. Objetivo:Este artigo tem como objetivo relatar um caso clínico de reabilitação estética utilizando facetas em resina composta com fechamento de diastemas.Relato de caso:Uma paciente do sexo feminino, com 24 anos de idade, procurou a clínica escola de odontologia com insatisfação em relação à estética do seu sorriso. A pacienteapresentava diastemas, restauração defeituosa e desproporção no tamanho dos dentes anteriores. O tratamento consistiu em um clareamento caseiro prévio, seguido pela confecção de facetas diretas em resina composta para fechamento dos diastemas e correção da desproporção dentária. Foram utilizados um Jig Estético e o software Digital Smile Design (DSD)para o planejamento, além de um mock-up em resina bisacrílica. Após a confecção das facetas, foi obtido um resultado estético final satisfatório. O caso incluiu um total de oito facetas,dos dentes 14 ao 24. Conclusão:O tratamento utilizando restaurações em resina composta proporcionou à paciente uma reabilitação estética, funcional e biológica (AU).


Introduction:Smile aesthetics is an aspect valued by today's society, which demands that dental professionals are up to date on dental materials and new techniques to achieve high-quality restorative aesthetic results. Composite resin is often used to simplify oral rehabilitation, as it offers dental veneers which combine excellent aesthetics and durability. Objective:This article aims to report a clinical case of aesthetic rehabilitation using composite resin veneers with diastema closure. Case report:A24-year-old female patient came to the dental school clinic with dissatisfaction regarding the aesthetics of her smile. The patient had diastemas, defective restoration and disproportionate anterior teeth size. The treatment consisted of prior at-home tooth bleaching, followed by creating direct composite resin veneers to close the diastemas and correct tooth disproportion. An Aesthetic Jig and the Digital Smile Design (DSD) software program were used for planning, in addition to a mock-up in bisacrylic resin. After treatment, a satisfactory final aesthetic result was obtained. The case included a total of eight veneers, from teeth 14 to 24. Conclusion:Treatment using composite resin restorations provided the patient with aesthetic, functional and biological rehabilitation (AU).


Introducción: La estética de la sonrisa es un aspecto valorado por la sociedad actual, hecho que demanda de los profesionales de odontología actualización constante sobre los materiales dentarios y nuevas técnicas para alcanzar resultados estéticos restauradores de altacualidad. La resina compuesta es frecuentemente utilizada para simplificar la rehabilitación oral, pues ofrece facetas dentarias que combinan excelente estética y durabilidad.Objetivo: Este artículo tiene como objetivo relatar un caso clínico de rehabilitación estética a partir de la utilización de facetas en resina compuesta con cierre de diastemas. Informe de caso: Una paciente, del sexo femenino, con 24 años de edad, buscó la clínica-escuela de odontología insatisfecha con la estética de su sonrisa. La paciente presentaba diastemas, restauración dentaria defectuosa y desproporción en el tamaño de los dientes anteriores. El tratamiento consistió en un blanqueamiento casero previo, seguido por la confección de facetas directas de resina compuesta para cierre de los diastemas y corrección de la desproporción dentaria. Fueron utilizados un Jig Estético y el software Digital Smile Design(DSD) para el planeamiento, además de un mock-upen resina bisacrílica. Tras la confección de las facetas, fue obtenido un resultado estético final satisfactorio. El caso incluyó un total de ocho facetas, de los dientes 14 al 24.Conclusión: El tratamiento a partir de restauraciones en resina compuesta proporcionó a la paciente una rehabilitación estética, funcional y biológica (AU).

ABSTRACT

Objetivos: avaliar os processos de coleta, lavagem e esterilização de instrumentais odontológicos, evidenciando se houveram mudanças no processo em função da pandemia de COVID-19, em consultórios odontológicos tanto particulares como públicos, na cidade de Pelotas-RS, visando auxiliar no incremento da segurança e eficácia da esterilização na prática odontológica, após uma crise sanitária global e propor um Procedimento Operacional Padrão (POP). Métodos: os dados foram obtidos em um único momento através de respostas dadas pela aplicação de um questionário para o profissional responsável pelo processo de esterilização de cada local. Os dados foram compilados pelo software Microsoft Excel, foi realizada a análise descritiva e os mesmos foram expressos na forma de porcentagem. Resultados: em 100% dos locais o processo de lavagem e esterilização ocorria na mesma sala de atendimento, destes em quatro locais a operação de transporte era realizada com o auxílio de uma caixa plástica higienizável e seis locais contavam com um processo de pré-lavagem. Todos os locais faziam uso de autoclave para o processo de esterilização, 100% realizavam o monitoramento químico do processo, porém apenas quatro realizavam o monitoramento biológico. Conclusão: houve poucas mudanças nos processos de lavagem e esterilização nos locais pesquisados em razão do surgimento da pandemia de COVID -19. Nenhum local examinado possuía o POP descrito do processo de lavagem e esterilização de instrumentais odontológicos e observou-se um baixo uso dos indicadores biológicos, os quais são considerados o padrão ouro da biossegurança.(AU)


Objectives: to evaluate the processes of collection, washing, and sterilization of dental instruments, highlighting any changes in the process due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in both private and public dental clinics in the city of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, with the aim of enhancing the safety and effectiveness of sterilization in dental practice after a global health crisis, and to propose a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Methods: data were collected at a single time point through questionnaire responses provided by the professional responsible for the sterilization process at each location. The data were compiled using Microsoft Excel software, and descriptive analysis was conducted. The results were expressed in the form of percentages. Results: in 100% of the locations, the washing and sterilization process took place in the same treatment room. Out of these, transportation was conducted using a hygienizable plastic box in four locations, and six locations had a pre-washing process. All locations used an autoclave for the sterilization process, and 100% performed chemical monitoring of the process, but only four locations conducted biological monitoring. Conclusion: there were few changes in the washing and sterilization processes at the surveyed locations due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. None of the examined locations had a described SOP for the washing and sterilization process of dental instruments, and there was a low utilization of biological indicators, which are considered the gold standard for biosafety.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This in silico study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of a full-arch implant-supported prosthesis on titanium and zirconia monotype implants. A 3D mandible containing 1.0 mm thick cortical and cancellous bone was modeled. Four dental implants (3.3 x 10 mm) were inserted into the jaw model in each model. The implants consisted of Titanium (Ti-S group) and Zirconia Monotype/one-piece (Zr-S group). Fixed full-arch implant-supported prostheses were cemented onto the implant. The models were exported to the analysis software and divided into meshes composed of nodes and tetrahedral elements. All materials were considered isotropic, elastic, and homogeneous. Therefore, all contacts were considered bonded, the mandible model was fixed in all directions, applying a static structural axial load of 300 N on the bottom of the fossa of the left mola r teeth. Microstrain and von-Mises stress (MPa) were adopted as failure criteria. Comparable stress and strain values were shown in the peri-implant bone for both groups. However, the Ti-S group presented a lower stress value (1,155.8 MPa) than the Zr-S group (1,334.2 MPa). Regarding bone tissues, the Ti-S group presented 612 µε and the Zr-S group presented 254 µε. The highest strain peak was observed in bone tissues around the implant closer to the load for both groups. Evaluating monotype zirconia and titanium implants, it is suggested that the greater the rigidity of the implant, the greater the concentration of internal stre sses and the less dissipation to the surrounding tissues. Therefore, monotype ceramic implants composed of yttrium-stabilized tetragonal polycrystalline zirconia may be a viable alternative to titanium implants for full-arch prostheses.


El objetivo de este estudio in silico fue evaluar el comportamiento biomecánico de una prótesis implanto soportada de arcada completa sobre implantes monotipo de titanio y zirconia. Se modeló una mandíbula en 3D que contenía tejido óseo cortical y esponjoso de 1,0 mm de espesor. En cada modelo, se insertaron cuatro implantes dentales (3,3 x 10 mm) en el modelo de mandíbula. Los implantes consistieron en Monotipo de Titanio y Zirconia. Sobre el implante se cementaron prótesis implanto soportadas de arcada completa fija. Los modelos se exportaron al software de análisis y se dividieron en mallas compuestas por nodos y elementos tetraédricos. Todos los materiales se consideraron isotrópicos, elásticos y homogéneos. Por lo tanto, todos los contactos se consideraron cementados, el modelo mandibular se fijó en todas las direcciones, aplicando una carga vertical estructural estática de 300 N en el fondo de la fosa de los dientes molares izquierdos. Se seleccionaron la microesfuerzo y la tensión de Von-Mises (MPa) como criterios de falla. Se mostraron valores de tensión y deformación comparables en el hueso periimplantario para ambos grupos. Sin embargo, el grupo Ti-S presentó un valor de estrés menor (1.155,8 MPa) que el grupo Zr-S (1.334,2 MPa). En cuanto a los tejidos óseos, el grupo Ti-S presentó 612 µε y el grupo Zr-S presentó 254 µε. La mayor concentración de deformación en el tejido óseo se observó en los tejidos alrededor del implante más cerca de la carga para ambos grupos. Al evaluar los implantes monotípicos de zirconia y titanio, se sugiere que cuanto mayor sea la rigidez del implante, mayor será la concentración de tensiones internas y menor la disipación a los tejidos circundantes. Por lo tanto, los implantes cerámicos monotipo compuestos de zirconia policristalina tetragonal estabilizada con itrio pueden ser una alternativa viable a los implantes de titanio para prótesis de arcada completa.

ABSTRACT

Znic (Zn) alloys with good cytocompatibility and suitable degradation rate have been a kind of biodegradable metal with great potential for clinical applications. This paper summarizes the biological role of degradable Zn alloy as bone implant materials, discusses the mechanical properties of different Zn alloys and their advantages and disadvantages as bone implant materials, and analyzes the influence of different processing strategies (such as alloying and additive manufacturing) on the mechanical properties of Zn alloys. This paper provides systematic design approaches for biodegradable Zn alloys as bone implant materials in terms of the material selection, product processing, structural topology optimization, and assesses their application prospects with a view to better serve the clinic.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To fabricate TiO2 nanotube material functionalized by antimicrobial peptide LL-37, and to explore its effects on biological behaviors such as adhesion and migration of human keratinocytes (HaCaT) and its antibacterial properties. Methods: The TiO2 nanotube array (NT) was constructed on the surface of polished titanium (PT) by anodization, and the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 was loaded on the surface of TiO2 nanotube (LL-37/NT) by physical adsorption. Three samples were selected by simple random sampling in each group. Surface morphology, roughness, hydrophilicity and release characteristics of LL-37 of the samples were analyzed with a field emission scanning electron microscope, an atomic force microscope, a contact angle measuring device and a microplate absorbance reader. HaCaT cells were respectively cultured on the surface of three groups of titanium samples. Each group had 3 replicates. The morphology of cell was observed by field emission scanning electron microscope. The number of cell adhesion was observed by cellular immunofluorescence staining. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to detect cell proliferation. Wound scratch assay was used to observe the migration of HaCaT. The above experiments were used to evaluate the effect of each group on the biological behavior of HaCaT cells. To evaluate their antibacterial effects, Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) was respectively inoculated on the surface of three groups of titanium samples. Each group had 3 replicates. The morphology of bacteria was observed by field emission scanning electron microscope. Bacterial viability was determined by live/dead bacterial staining. Results: A uniform array of nanotubes could be seen on the surface of titanium samples in LL-37/NT group, and the top of the tube was covered with granular LL-37. Compared with PT group [the roughness was (2.30±0.18) nm, the contact angle was 71.8°±1.7°], the roughness [(20.40±3.10) and (19.10±4.11) nm] and hydrophilicity (the contact angles were 22.4°±3.1° and 25.3°±2.2°, respectively) of titanium samples increased in NT and LL-37/NT group (P<0.001). The results of in vitro release test showed that the release of antimicrobial peptide LL-37 was characterized by early sudden release (1-4 h) and long-term (1-7 d) slow release. With the immunofluorescence, more cell attachment was found on NT and LL-37/NT than that on PT at the first 0.5 and 2.0 h of culture (P<0.05). The results of CCK-8 showed that there was no significant difference in the proliferation of cells among groups at 1, 3 and 5 days after culture. Wound scratch assay showed that compared with PT and NT group, the cell moved fastest on the surface of titanium samples in LL-37/NT group at 24 h of culture [(96.4±4.9)%] (F=35.55, P<0.001). A monolayer cells could be formed and filled with the scratch in 24 h at LL-37/NT group. The results of bacterial test in vitro showed that compared with the PT group, the bacterial morphology in the NT and LL-37/NT groups was significantly wrinkled, and obvious bacterial rupture could be seen on the surface of titanium samples in LL-37/NT group. The results of bacteria staining showed that the green fluorescence intensity of titanium samples in LL-37/NT group was the lowest in all groups (F=66.54,P<0.001). Conclusions: LL-37/NT is beneficial to the adhesion and migration of HaCaT cells and has excellent antibacterial properties, this provides a new strategy for the optimal design of implant neck materials.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To evaluate the bottom/top hardness ratio (B/T) and the dentin bonding stability of conventional and bulk-fill resin composites in high c-factor preparations. Methods: Regular conventional (Tetric N-Ceram ­ TNC, and Polofil Supra ­ PFS), regular bulk-fill (Tetric N-Ceram Bulk fill ­ TBF, and Admira Fusion X-tra ­ AFX), and low viscosity bulk-fill resin composites (Tetric N-flow ­ TNF, and X-tra Base ­ XTB) were used to restore 180 dentin conical preparations. The specimens were randomly distributed in 12 groups (n = 15) according to the resin composites and storage time-points (24 h and six months) tested. After 24 h storage, all specimens were subjected to the bottom/top hardness ratio analysis. Then, the push-out bond strength test was performed in half of the specimens and the other half were maintained for six months on water storage before testing. The failure modes were analyzed in a stereomicroscopic. The data were analyzed statistically using one- and two-way ANOVA and Tukey post-test (p <0.05). Results: There were no statistically significant differences for the bottom/top hardness ratio among the resin composites (p>0.05). Regardless of the storage timepoint, regular bulk-fill resin composites showed the highest bond strength values statistically (p<0.05). Only conventional resin composites showed statistically lower bond strength values at six-month storage (p<0.05). Adhesive failures were more predominant for low-viscosity bulk-fill resin composites. Conclusion: Although the DoC was not affected by different materials tested, only bulk-fill resin composites did not present dentin bond strength loss after six-month of water storage

ABSTRACT

Objective: to evaluate the effect of novel zirconia surface treatment method on shear bond strength between zirconia and veneering porcelain compared to air abrasion and CoJet surface treatment methods. Material and Methods: twenty-one zirconia ceramic discs were fabricated with diameter of 7mm and 3mm thickness and divided according to surface treatment into three subgroups, control group I: Air Abrasion (n=7), group II: CoJet (n=7) and group III: Z-etch (n=7). Porcelain was built over the zirconia specimens with a customized mold and fired in a ceramic furnace. All specimens were thermocycled (20000 cycles) between 5°C ­ 55 °C with a dwell time of 30 seconds in distilled water and shear bond strength of veneering porcelain to each zirconia specimen was tested using a universal testing machine. Results: numerical data were explored for normality by checking the distribution of data and using tests of normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests). One-way ANOVA test was used to compare between the groups. There was a statistically significant difference between the three groups (P-value = 0.002, Effect size = 0.503). Pair-wise comparisons between groups revealed that Z-etch showed the statistically significantly highest mean shear bond strength. Conclusion: zirconia coating using z-etch is showing promising results in promoting higher bond strength than conventional surface treatment methods as air abrasion and silica coating (AU)


Objetivo: avaliar o efeito do novo método de tratamento de superfície de zircônia na resistência ao cisalhamento entre a zircônia e a porcelana de cobertura em comparação com os métodos de abrasão a ar e jateamento com CoJet. Material e Métodos: vinte e um discos de zircônia foram confeccionados com diâmetro de 7mm e espessura de 3mm e divididos de acordo com o tratamento de superfície em três subgrupos, grupo controle I: Abrasão a ar (n=7), grupo II: CoJet (n=7) e grupo III: Z-etch (n=7). A porcelana foi aplicada sobre os espécimes de zircônia com um molde personalizado e sinterizada em forno de cerâmica. Todos os espécimes foram termociclados (20.000 ciclos) entre 5°C - 55°C com um tempo de permanência de 30 segundos em água destilada e a resistência ao cisalhamento da porcelana de cobertura foi testada através de uma máquina de ensaio universal. Resultados: os dados numéricos foram avaliados quanto à normalidade, verificando a distribuição dos dados e utilizando testes de normalidade (testes de Kolmogorov-Smirnov e Shapiro-Wilk). O teste ANOVA de um fator foi utilizado para comparar os grupos. Houve uma diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os três grupos (P-valor = 0,002, tamanho do efeito = 0,503). As comparações pareadas entre os grupos revelaram que o Z-etch apresentou a resistência de união ao cisalhamento estatisticamente significativamente mais alta. Conclusão: o revestimento de zircônia utilizando Z-etch mostrou resultados promissores para o aumento da resistência de união em comparação aos métodos convencionais de tratamento de superfície, como abrasão a ar e revestimento de sílica (AU)

Objetivo: Este estudo avaliou as propriedades de polimento dos materiais de splint oclusal obtidos usando métodos de fabricação subtrativos e aditivos com os procedimentos de polimento laboratorial (LP) e polimento em consultório (CP). Material e Métodos: As amostras (N=180, n=60 para cada grupo) foram fabricadas usando um dos seguintes métodos: método de fabricação subtrativo (SMM) (M-PM Disc, Merz Dental GmbH), método de fabricação aditivo (AMM) (Freeprint Splint 2.0, DETAX GmbH & Co. KG) e o método de fabricação convencional (CMM) (Promolux HC, Merz Dental GmbH). Seguindo os procedimentos de LP e CP, a rugosidade da superfície dos espécimes foi medida usando um perfilômetro de superfície digital. Um espécime representativo foi selecionado de cada grupo, e uma imagem de microscópio eletrônico de varredura (SEM) foi obtida. Resultados: Tanto o método de fabricação quanto os procedimentos de polimento afetaram significativamente os resultados (P<0,01). Os termos de interação também foram significativos (P<0,001). Conclusão: Com ambos os métodos de polimento, a rugosidade superficial do grupo AMM foi a maior e a do grupo CMM a menor. Embora o procedimento CP tenha sido mais eficaz do que LP com ambos os métodos, a rugosidade da superfície ficou abaixo do limite de 0,2 µm após ambos os procedimentos de polimento testados (AU)


Objective: This study evaluated the polishing properties of the occlusal splint materials obtained using subtractive and additive manufacturing methods with the laboratory-type polishing (LP) and chairside-type polishing (CP) procedures. Material and Methods: Specimens (N=180, n=60 each group) were manufactured using one of the following methods: subtractive manufacturing method (SMM) (M-PM Disc, Merz Dental GmbH), additive manufacturing method (AMM) (Freeprint Splint 2.0, DETAX GmbH & Co. KG), and the conventional manufacturing method (CMM) (Promolux HC, Merz Dental GmbH). Following LP and CP procedures, surface roughness of the specimens was measured using a digital surface profilometer. One representative specimen was selected from each group, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image was made. Results: Both the manufacturing method and the polishing procedures significantly affected the results (P<0.01). Interaction terms were also significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: With both polishing methods, surface roughness of the AMM group was the highest and the CMM group the least. Although the CP procedure was more effective than LP with both methods, surface roughness was below the 0.2 µm threshold after both polishing procedures tested. (AU)

Objetivo:Investigar a eficácia do selamento de lesão de cárie dentinária em comparação com a remoção parcial de cárie seguida de restauração em molares decíduos. Material e Método: O estudo clínico randomizado foi planejado ser realizado em 60 crianças com idade entre 3 e 8 anos. As crianças foram randomizadas por sorteio, com alocação para os 3 grupos, sendo 20 em cada grupo: Grupo 1 (G1) constituído por crianças que receberam o selamento de cárie com resina fluida; Grupo 2 (G2) com crianças que receberam o selamento de cárie com cimento de ionômero de vidro de alta viscosidade e Grupo controle (G3) com crianças onde a remoção parcial da cárie foi seguida por restauração com cimento de ionômero de vidro resinoso. Foram feitos acompanhamentos clínicos e radiográficos antes e após a intervenção, bem como a cada 4 meses durante 1 ano, investigando-se se houve fratura no selamento ou na restauração (infiltração marginal), paralização, regressão ou evolução do processo carioso nos 3 grupos. Resultados: A amostra foi reduzida para 49 crianças pois durante a fase de controle clínico radiográfico, 11 não foram localizadas por mudança de endereço.O grupo G1 apresentou 50% dos casos com regressão e 50% dos casos em paralização. O grupo G2 apresentou 62,5% dos casos com regressão e 37,5% dos casos com paralização e o grupo G3 com 60% dos casos com regressão e 40% com paralização. Não houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre o tipo de grupo e a progressão da lesão, não havendo diferença entre os grupos (valor de p = 0,74). Conclusão: Não houve diferença entre os grupos quanto à progressão de lesão de cárie quando tratados somente com o selamento com resina fluida ou com cimento de ionômero de vidro de alta viscosidade ou com restauração convencional com cimento de ionômero de vidro resinoso após a remoção do tecido cariado.


Aim: To investigate the effectiveness of sealing a dentin caries lesion compared to the removal of partial caries followed by restoration in deciduous molars. Methods: The randomized clinical trial was planned to be performed on 60 children, aged 3 to 8 years. Children were randomized by lot, with allocation into 3 groups, 20 per group: Group 1 (G1) consisted of children who received a sealing of caries using fluid resin; Group 2(G2) included children who received the sealing of caries performed with high viscosity glass ionomer cement, and Group 3(G3) conducted with children where the removal of partial caries was followed by restoration with resinous glass ionomer cement. Clinical and radiographic follow-ups were performed before and after the intervention, as well as every four months for one year, investigating whether there was a fracture in the sealing or restoration (marginal infiltration), paralysis, regression, or evolution of the carious process in the three groups. Results: The sample was reduced to 49 children given that, during the radiographic clinical control phase, 11 were not located due to a change of address. The G1 group presented 50% cases with regression and 50% cases with paralysis. The G2 group presented 62.5% of the cases with regression and 37.5% of the cases with paralysis, while the G3 group showed 60% of the cases with regression and 40% with paralysis. There was no statistically significant association between the type of group and the progression of the lesion, with no difference found between the groups (p value=0.74). Conclusion: There was no difference between the groups regarding the progression of carious lesions when treated only with fluid resin sealing or with high viscosity glass ionomer cement or with conventional restoration with resinous glass ionomer cement after the removal of decayed tissue.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the influence of non-invasive treatment associated with the use of infiltrating resin for managing caries lesions in primary teeth. Material and Methods: A systematic review was performed by selecting articles from 6 online databases, using a search algorithm and eligibility criteria for data extraction and data synthesis for the papers included. Clinical trials involving primary teeth with incipient caries lesions (1/2 of the enamel or 1/3 of the outer dentin) were included, presenting full text and answering the study's guiding question. This study used the RoB 2 tool for the risk of bias assessment and GRADE for certainty of evidence. Random effects meta-analyses were implemented, and lesion progression treatment effects were estimated through relative risk (RR) and associated 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 440 studies were found. After analyzing the inclusion criteria and removal of duplicates, eight studies were analyzed for quality evidence. Five of the eight studies included in this review contributed to the meta-analysis, all with some reflections regarding the risk of bias. Overall, the results of the meta-analysis showed that non-invasive treatment, when associated with the use of infiltrating resins, significantly reduced the risk of caries progression in relation to the treatment without this addition for follow-up periods ranging from 12 months to 2 years (RR 0.51 [0.40-0.65]). Conclusion: There is moderate certainty of evidence that the use of infiltrating resins associated with non-invasive treatments decreases the risk of caries progression in primary teeth with incipient caries lesions (1/2 of the enamel or 1/3 of the dentin outer) when combined with non-invasive control methods alone.

Introdução: Materiais reparadores devem apresentar baixa solubilidade. Solução salina tamponada com fosfato (PBS) permite simular condição clínica e interação com dentina pode ser importante para correta avaliação da perda de massa de cimentos biocerâmicos. Objetivo: Avaliou o efeito da imersão em água destilada (AD) ou PBS na solubilidade de Bio-C Repair (BCR, Angelus) ou MTA Repair HP (MTAHP, Angelus) usando modelo de tubo de dentina. Material e método: Tubos de dentina bovina foram confeccionados com 4 mm de comprimento, 1,5 mm de diâmetro interno e 1 mm aproximadamente de espessura de parede. Os espécimes foram imersos em AD por 24h, posteriormente preenchidos com BCR ou MTAHP (n = 14) e armazenados em estufa a 37°C e umidade 95% por 24h. Após serem pesados em balança de precisão para determinação da massa inicial, os corpos de prova foram imersos em AD (pH 6,5) ou PBS (pH 7,0) (n = 7) por 28 dias. Tubos vazios também foram utilizados para o cálculo de perda de massa da dentina (n=4). Após esse período, os espécimes foram pesados até a estabilização da massa final (0,001g). A solubilidade de cada material foi avaliada. Testes estatísticos ANOVA e Tukey foram realizados (α=0,05). Resultado: BCR e MTAHP apresentaram ganho de massa em AD e perda de massa em PBS (p<0,05). Conclusão: A solução de imersão influencia a solubilidade de BCR e MTAHP usando modelo de tubo de dentina. Nova proposta metodológica poderá ser uma alternativa às normas ISO para testar a solubilidade de cimentos biocerâmicos


Introduction: Repair materials must have low solubility. Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) allows simulating clinical condition and interaction with dentin may be important for the correct evaluate of mass loss of bioceramic cements. Objective: To evaluate the effect of distilled water (DW), or PBS immersion on the solubility of Bio-C Repair (BCR, Angelus) or MTA Repair HP (MTAHP, Angelus) using a dentin tube model. Material and method: Bovine dentin tubes with a length of 4 mm, an internal diameter of 1.5 mm and walls thickness of approximately 1 mm were made. The specimens were immersed in DW for 24h, then filled with BCR or MTAHP (n = 14) and stored in an oven at 37°C and 95% humidity for 24h. After being weighed on a precision balance to determine the initial mass, the specimens were immersed in DW (pH 6.5) or PBS (pH 7.0) (n = 7) for 28 days. Empty tubes also were used for calculating the mass loss of the dentin (n=4). After this period, the specimens were weighed until stabilization of the final mass occurred (0.001g). The solubility of each material was evaluated. ANOVA and Tukey statistical tests were performed (α=0.05). Result: BCR and MTAHP showing gain of mass in DW and mass loss in PBS (p<0.05). Conclusion: The immersion solution influenced the solubility of BCR and MTAHP using dentin tube model. The new methodological proposal could be an alternative to ISO standards for testing the solubility of bioceramic cement

Com base no desenvolvimento da odontologia adesiva, restaurações minimamente invasivas em cerâmica são utilizadas como alternativas para restaurar um dente. As cerâmicas odontológicas são amplamente aplicadas na área odontológica principalmente devido à sua estética e resistência mecânica. Uma das propriedades da cerâmica a ser bem conhecida antes de seu uso, é a resistência ao desgaste que deve ser compatível com o comportamento de desgaste do antagonista para evitar desempenhos indesejados. Portanto, vários métodos têm sido realizados para avaliar o comportamento do desgaste dos materiais cerâmicos considerando diferentes condições presentes no complexo meio oral. Este estudo teve como objetivo compilar os métodos utilizados para investigar o desgaste das cerâmicas odontológicas e descrever os mecanismos de desgaste envolvidos nos mesmos. A obtenção e análise de dados também é abordada para discutir os resultados obtidos a partir de diferentes métodos, bem como a análise clínica do desgaste e perspectivas futuras sobre esse tema. Em conclusão, muitas metodologias estão disponíveis para medir o desgaste cerâmico. Portanto, os métodos devem ser selecionados com base na relevência clínica de cada estudo e devem seguir parâmetros previamente relatados para padronização, permitindo a comparação da literatura (AU)


Based on the development of adhesive dentistry, minimally invasive restorations in ceramics are used as alternatives to restore a tooth. Dental ceramics are largely applied in the dentistry field mainly due to their esthetic and mechanical strength. One of the ceramic properties to be well known before its use is the wear resistance that should be compatible with the antagonist wear behavior to avoid unwanted performance. Therefore, several methods have been performed to assess the ceramic materials wear behavior considering different conditions present in the complex oral medium. This study aimed to compile the methods used to investigate dental ceramics wear and to describe the wear mechanisms involved on them. Obtaining and analyzing data is also addressed to discuss the results obtained from different methods, as well as the clinical analysis of wear and future perspectives on this topic. In conclusion, many methodologies are available to measure the ceramic wear. Therefore, the methods must be selected based on the clinical significance of each study and should follow previously reported parameters for standardization, allowing literature comparison. (AU)

Aim: The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the bond strength of a bulk fill composite on dentin surfaces prepared with the Er: YAG laser. Methods: Twenty-four permanent third molars were selected and divided into 2 groups: CP - Conventional preparation with high-speed handpiece (control) and LA (laser) - Preparation with Er: YAG laser. The occlusal surface was removed to expose coronal dentin, which was subsequently prepared with a high-speed handpiece or Er: YAG laser (350mJ, 4Hz, 1.5 ml/min water flow). Both groups were restored with Filtek One Bulk Fill (3M ESPE) composite resin. After 24 hours, the samples were evaluated for microtensile bond strength (µTBS), fracture pattern, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The data obtained in the µTBS test were submitted to t-test (α=0.05). The results showed no difference in µTBS when the different types of cavity preparation were compared (ρ=0.091). Fracture patterns revealed the prevalence of cohesive fracture in composite resin in CP (83.3%) and adhesive fracture in LA (92.1%). In the SEM analysis, the LA group demonstrated the presence of gaps between the composite resin and the irradiated dentin surface. The hybrid layer exhibited more regularity with the presence of longer and uniform resin tags in the CP group. Conclusion: The type of cavity preparation did not influence the values of bulk fill composite resin µTBS to dentin. Fracture patterns and scanning electron microscopy analyses suggested less interference at the adhesive interface in preparations performed using CP

ABSTRACT

The peri-implant ligament is formed from the interface of bone tissue, through the anchoring of proteins and the surface of the dental implant. In this sense, it is relevant to understand the extent to which this ligament is structured and biomimics the periodontal ligament functions. Aim: The goal of this scoping review is to present and analyze the peri-implant ligament composition and compare the extent to which this ligament is structured and biomimics the periodontal ligament functions. Methods: This scoping review was performed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews and following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses extension for scoping review. Two independent researchers searched Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase, Virtual Health Library, Scielo, Scopus, Web of Science, Brazilian Bibliography of Dentistry, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations from the University of São Paulo and Portal Capes. Studies published in English, Portuguese and Spanish, over the last 21 years (2000-2021). Results: A total of 330 titles were identified and after applying inclusion and exclusion factors, 27 studies were included in this review. All proteins were identified regarding their tissue function and classified into 6 major protein groups. After that this new protein ligament was compared with the periodontal ligament regarding its function and composition. The main proteins associated with osseointegration, and thus, with the peri-implant ligament are recognized as belonging to the periodontal ligament. Conclusion: This scoping review results suggest evidence of the composition and function of the periimplant ligament. However, variations may still exist due to the existence of several modulants of the osseointegration process

ABSTRACT

Este estudo avaliou o efeito do jateamento com óxido de alumínio prévio à camada de caracterização no comportamento adesivo e mecânico de zircônias de segunda e terceira gerações. Na parte A, foi realizado um estudo de resistência flexural. Para isso, discos de cada zircônia (3Y-TZP, 4Y-PSZ ou 5YPSZ) foram confeccionados. Após polimento e sinterização, os discos foram divididos de acordo com os tratamentos de superfície: Polimento, Jateamento com Al2O3 50 µm e Jateamento com Al2O3 110 µm (n = 30). A superfície tratada de todos os discos recebeu uma fina camada de pigmentação e uma fina camada de glaze. O ensaio de flexão biaxial foi realizado na configuração pistonon-three-balls e as superfícies fraturadas foram observadas em Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV). Os dados foram submetidos à Análise de Weibull. Na parte B, avaliou-se o efeito dos diferentes tratamentos de superfície prévio à camada de caracterização no comportamento à fadiga das diferentes zircônias. Discos de 3Y-TZP, 4Y-PSZ e 5Y-PSZ foram confeccionados e distribuídos entre os tratamentos de superfície: Polimento ou Jateamento Al2O3 50 µm (n = 15), que foram realizados conforme a parte A deste estudo. Os discos foram cimentados adesivamente a um análogo de dentina (NEMA G10). Os testes de fadiga foram realizados pelo método stepwise, com aplicação de carga axial por um pistão hemisférico (carga inicial: 400 N, step: 100 N, ciclos/step: 10.000, frequência: 20 Hz). Na parte C, avaliou-se a resistência de união entre as diferentes zircônias e a camada de caracterização. Foram preparados os mesmos grupos descritos na "parte A" (n = 15). Cilindros de stain seguido por glaze foram construídos nas superfícies das zircônias. A resistência de união foi avaliada pelo teste de cisalhamento. Os tipos de falha (adesiva, predominantemente adesiva ou coesiva) foram analisados em estereomicroscópio e MEV. Análises complementares em perfilômetro e goniômetro foram realizadas. Para a parte A, o jateamento com Al2O3 110 µm aos menores valores de resistência à flexão, seguido do jateamento com as partículas de Al2O3 50 µm. Os maiores valores foram observados no grupo que não recebeu jateamento prévio à camada de caracterização. Esses resultados foram observados em todos os materiais. Na parte B, o jateamento com Al2O3 reduziu significativamente a carga e o número de ciclos para falha em fadiga de todos os materiais. Na parte C, os melhores valores de resistência de união foram atribuídos para o tratamento de superfície com Al2O3 110 µm, seguido de jateamento com Al2O3 50 µm e polimento. Dessa forma, o jateamento prévio à camada de caracterização reduz a resistência mecânica de zircônias de segunda geração e melhora a resistência de união entre os dois materiais (AU)


This study evaluated the effect of aluminum oxide sandblasting prior to the characterization layer on the adhesive and mechanical behavior of second- and third-generation zirconia. Part A consisted of a flexural strength study. Discs of each zirconia (3Y-TZP, 4Y-PSZ, or 5Y-PSZ) were prepared. After polishing and sintering, the discs were divided according to the surface treatments: Polishing, Sandblasting with Al2O3 50 µm and Sandblasting with Al2O3 110 µm (n = 30). The treated surface of all discs received a thin layer of stain and a thin layer of glaze. The biaxial bending test was performed in a piston-on-three-balls set-up. The fractured surfaces were observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Data were subjected to Weibull Analysis. In part B, the effect of different surface treatments prior to the characterization layer on the fatigue behavior of different zirconia was evaluated. Discs of 3Y-TZP, 4Y-PSZ and 5Y-PSZ were prepared and divided among the surface treatments: Polishing or Sandblasting Al2O3 50 µm (n = 15), which were performed according to part A of this study. The discs were adhesively cemented to a dentin-analogue (NEMA G10). Fatigue tests were performed using the stepwise method, with an axial load application by a hemispherical piston (initial load: 400 N, step: 100 N, cycles/step: 10,000, frequency: 20 Hz). Part C evaluated the bond strength between the different zirconia and the characterization layer. The same groups described in part A (n = 15) were prepared. Stain cylinders followed by glaze were built on the zirconia surfaces. The bond strength was evaluated by the shear test. The types of failure (adhesive, predominantly adhesive or cohesive) were analyzed using a stereomicroscope and SEM. Complementary analyzes in profilometer and goniometer were carried out. In part A, sandblasting with Al2O3 110 µm led to the lowest flexural strength results, followed by sandblasting with Al2O3 50 µm. Polishing group achieved the highest values. These results were observed in all tested ceramics. In part B, sandblasting with Al2O3 50 µm significantly reduced the fatigue failure load and the number of cycles for fatigue failure. In part C, the highest bond strength results were reached by sandblasting with Al2O3 110 µm, followed by sandblasting with Al2O3 50 µm, and polishing. Therefore, aluminum oxide particles sandblasting diminishes the mechanical behavior of second- and third-generation zirconias and improves the bond strength between the two materials. (AU)

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the types of restorative materials used for restorative treatment in primary teeth through a retrospective university-based study. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of all clinical records of children attended at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Inclusion criteria were primary anterior and posterior teeth that received dental restorations for treatment of dental caries lesions, dental trauma or dental development defects from 2013 to 2018. Restoration repairs and interim restorations during this period were also recorded. Descriptive analyzes were performed to assess the distribution according to the type of restorative material used over the years. Results: A total of 5,236 restorative procedures were performed in primary teeth, including restoration repair and interim restorations. Of those, 69% were done in posterior teeth and 31% in anterior teeth. Sixty percent of the procedures performed during this period were made of composite resin and a lower percentage of glass ionomer cement (18%) followed by silver amalgam (1%). The number of interim restorations was smaller but proportional to those of composite resin over the years. Conclusion: A tendency to carry out restorative treatment of primary teeth with composite resin during the 6 years of follow-up was observed.

ABSTRACT

Atualmente, diversos materiais restauradores encontram-se disponíveis para aplicabilidade em Odontopediatria. Os avanços dos materiais restauradores conduzem à necessidade de novos estudos nessa temática. O presente estudo apresenta duas propostas de investigação: 1) Estudo transversal com objetivo de avaliar a preferência de pais/responsáveis e crianças quanto ao emprego do compômero colorido (Twinky Star®, Voco, Alemanha); 2) Estudo bibliométrico altimétrico com objetivo de analisar 50 artigos mais citados referente aos materiais restauradores utilizados em Odontopediatria e o alcance dessa informação científica nas mídias on-line. O estudo transversal envolveu 260 pares de pais/responsáveis e crianças de 5 a 11 anos de idade de dois serviços de saúde da região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte-MG. Exame quanto à cárie dentária foi realizado por examinadora calibrada para o critério da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Um manequim odontológico contendo restaurações com compômeros coloridos e materiais convencionais (resina composta, ionômero de vidro e amálgama) foi apresentado aos participantes do estudo e realizou-se inquérito sobre a preferência dos materiais dentários. O Questionário de Estilo e Dimensões dos Pais (PSDQ) e o Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Junior (EPQ-J) foram aplicados, este último apenas para pais/responsáveis de crianças de 5 e 6 anos de idade. Análises descritivas, bivariadas e regressão multivariada de Poisson foram realizadas. A maioria dos pais/responsáveis (74,2%) preferiu materiais convencionais. A idade da criança (p=0,006), a renda familiar (p= 0,001) e o nível de escolaridade (p< 0,001) associaram se a essa escolha. A análise multivariada demonstrou que crianças menores de 7 anos apresentaram 1,20 vezes maior probabilidade de escolher compômeros coloridos do que seus pares mais velhos (p< 0,001), assim como pais/responsáveis com menos de 11 anos de escolaridade e cujos filhos eram menores de 7 anos apresentaram 2,17 e 1,74 maior probabilidade para escolher compômeros coloridos, respectivamente. Concluiu-se que responsáveis com maior escolaridade apresentaram maior resistência às restaurações coloridas e crianças menores de 7 anos aceitaram melhor este material. O estudo bibliométrico-altimétrico adotou estratégia de busca em três bases (Web of Science, Scopus e Google Scholar), independente da data de publicação. Após seleção dos artigos por um grupo de cinco pesquisadores, em março de 2023, foram incluídos estudos que avaliassem qualquer material restaurador empregado em dentes decíduos e analisados dados referentes ao título, número de citações, país/continente, autoria, periódico, instituição, desenho do estudo, tipo de material restaurador, e escore altimétrico. Os artigos, publicados entre 1991 a 2002, apresentaram variação de citações de 19 a 113. Os autores com maior número de citações foram Qvist V e Teglers PT. O estudo experimental foi o principal delineamento de estudo observado e o cimento de ionomero de vidro foi o material mais reportado. A Europa foi o continente, e o Brasil, o país com maior número de citações. O escore altimétrico esteve presente em 23 artigos, com ênfase para dois artigos (43/6º e 73/7º). Concluiu-se que o cimento de ionômero de vidro foi o material mais estudado. Ficou evidente o distanciamento entre a posição dos trabalhos nas análises bibliométrica e altimétrica, apontando necessidade de disseminação da informação além dos círculos acadêmicos.


Currently, an arsenal of restorative materials is available for applicability in pediatric dentistry. The advances in restorative materials conducted to need for further studies in this thematic. The present study presents two investigation proposals: 1) Cross-sectional study aiming to evaluate the preference of parents and children regarding the use of colored compomer (Twinky Star®, Voco, Germany); 2) Bibliometric-altmetric study aiming to analyze the 50-most cited papers regarding to restorative materials used in pediatric dentistry and the dissemination of scientific information in online media. The cross-sectional study included 260 pairs of caregivers/children aged 5 to 11, in two public health services, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte-MG. Examination for dental caries was performed by an examiner calibrated to the criteria of the World Health Organization. A dental mannequin containing colored compomers restorations and conventional materials (composite resin, glass ionomer cement and dental amalgam) was presented to the population and a survey was conducted about the preference of dental materials. Parents' Style and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Junior (EPQ-J) were applied, the last one only for parents/caregivers of children aged 5 to 6. Descriptive, bivariate and Poisson regression analyzes were performed. Most adults (74.2%) preferred conventional materials. Family income (p= 0.001) and education level (p< 0.001) were associated with its choice. Age up to 7 (p< 0.001) associated with children's choice for colored restorations (72.3%). Children younger than 7 had 1.20 higher probability to choose colored compomers than their older pairs, while adults with children younger than 7 and less than 11 years of schooling had 1.74 and 2.17 higher probability to choose colored compomers, respectively. It was concluded that caregivers with higher educational level showed greater resistance to use of colored restorations and children younger than 7 had better acceptance of colored material. The bibliometrics-altmetrics study adopted a search strategy in three databases (Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar), independent of the year of publication. After selection of papers by a panel of five researchers, in March 2023, any restorative material used in deciduous teeth was included and data about the title, number of citations, country/continent, authorship, journal, design of the study, type of restorative material, university and altmetrics score were analyzed. The papers, published between 1991 and 2002, ranged from 19 to 113 citations. The authors with the highest number of citations were Qvist V and Teglers PT. The experimental study was the main study design observed. Analyzing the continent and country with the highest number of citations, Europe highlighted and Brazil was predominant. The altmetric score was present in 23 papers, emphasizing two articles (43/6th and 73/7th). It was concluded that glass ionomer cement was the most studied material. A gap between the position of the papers correlating the bibliometrics and altmetrics analyzes was evident, demonstrating the need to disseminate the information beyond academic circles.

Objective: whether gag reflex, a common problem encountered during dental procedures, is associated with the different types of the soft palate has not been addressed so far. This preliminary study sought to assess the potential association between the different types of soft palate and gag reflex. Material and Methods: one hundred dental patients were recruited. The type of soft palate was determined. Subjective (self-reported) gag reflex was recorded based on many questions and past experience and on a 0-6 VAS. Objective assessment of gag reflex was done using different maneuvers where the posterior part of the tongue and the soft palate were touched by dental mirror, and by taking impression for the upper arch. The association between the types of soft palate and the subjective and objective recorded gag reflex were statistically tested. Results: there were 53 (53%), 33 (33%) and 14 (14%) of the participants with class I, class II and class III soft palate, respectively. A significant association was found between the type of the soft palate and gag reflex in response to one of the subjective items (P= 0.039), more prominent among females (P= 0.009). Concerning the objective assessment, no significant associations were found among males. Meanwhile more females with class II and class III suffered gag reflex and/or actual gagging upon taking the impression (P = 0.001). Conclusion: this study illustrated an association between the type of soft palate and gag reflex, and its severity in females (more specifically soft palate types II and III) more than in males (AU)


Objetivo: o reflexo de vômito, um problema comum encontrado durante procedimentos odontológicos, está ou não associado aos diferentes tipos de palato mole, não foi ainda abordado até o momento. Este estudo preliminar procurou avaliar a possível associação entre os diferentes tipos de palato mole e o reflexo de vômito. Material e Métodos:cem pacientes odontológicos foram recrutados. O tipo de palato mole foi determinado. O reflexo de vômito subjetivo (auto-relatado) foi registrado com base em muitas perguntas e experiências anteriores e em um VAS de 0-6. A avaliação objetiva do reflexo de vômito foi feita por meio de diferentes manobras onde a parte posterior da língua e o palato mole foram tocados por espelho dental e por meio de moldagem da arcada superior. A associação entre os tipos de palato mole e o reflexo de vômito subjetivo e objetivo registrado foi testada estatisticamente. Resultados: houve 53 (53%), 33 (33%) e 14 (14%) participantes com palato mole classe I, classe II e classe III, respectivamente. Foi encontrada associação significativa entre o tipo de palato mole e o reflexo de vômito em resposta a um dos itens subjetivos (P= 0,039), mais proeminente no sexo feminino (P= 0,009). Em relação à avaliação objetiva, não foram encontradas associações significativas entre os homens. Enquanto isso, mais mulheres com classe II e classe III sofreram reflexo de vômito e/ou engasgo real ao receber a impressão (P = 0,001). Conclusão: este estudo ilustrou uma associação entre o tipo de palato mole e reflexo de vômito e sua gravidade em mulheres (mais especificamente palato mole tipos II e III) mais do que em homens. ABSTRACT

Aim: To evaluate the occlusal and internal marginal adaptation of inlay restorations made of different materials, using CAD-CAM. Methods: Preparations were made for MOD inlays of one-third intercuspal width and 4 mm depth in 30 third human molars. The teeth were restored using CAD-CAM materials (n=10) of nanoceramic resin (Lava Ultimate), polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (VITA ENAMIC), or lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max CAD). The specimens were cemented with dual resin cement and sectioned at the center of the restoration, after which the two halves were evaluated, and photographed The occlusal and internal discrepancy (µm) was determined at five points: cavosurface angle of the occlusal-facial wall (CA-O); center of the facial wall (FW); faciopulpal angle (FPA); center of the pulpal wall (PW); and center of the lingual wall (LW). The data were submitted to the Kruskal-Wallis and the Dunn tests (α=0.05). Results: No difference was observed among the materials regarding the occlusal discrepancy at the CA-O, FPA, or PW internal points. The e.max CAD measurement at FW showed larger internal discrepancy than that of Lava (p=0.02). The internal discrepancy at LW was greater for e.max CAD than VITA ENAMIC (p=0.02). Conclusion: Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic presented greater internal discrepancy in relation to the surrounding walls of the inlay preparations
